Wisconsin senior forward Matt Ustaski signed with the ECHL’s Jacksonville Icemen, an affiliate of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets, who selected him in the 2014 draft.
Ustaski scored 13 goals in 100 collegiate games with the University of Wisconsin playing in all situations for the Badgers over his 4 year college career.
After a week off, the Icemen will be back in action tonight at home against Florida. Ustaski will be making his pro debut against the first place Florida Everblades. Ustaski is slotted to make his pro debut on the first line and has seen reps on both the Powerplay and Penalty Kill in practice.
Both teams enter tonight’s contest with two different situations. The Eastern Conference-leading Florida ‘Blades clinched a playoff berth just over a week ago when they beat the Icemen, 6-2, in Estero. On the other side, the Icemen are fighting for their playoff lives, and doing a great job at it. Jacksonville is only eight points behind fourth-place Atlanta, but the Icemen have three games in hand on the Gladiators with two critical meetings in Georgia next week.
