Kimmo joined the Acme team in May of 2017 after serving as general manager of KalPa of the Finnish Elite League the previous 9 years.  In addition to his role as KalPa’s general manager, Kimmo was also responsible for goalie coaching for four years.

Prior to his tenure with KalPa, Kimmo spent fifteen years playing elite leagues throughout Finland, Sweden and Germany compiling a total of 700+ games as a top goalie. He won two bronze medals (one with HPK and one with Timrå IK). He also appeared 13 times for the Finnish national team.

Growing up Kimmo was surrounded by the game of hockey. He comes from a famous hockey family: His father, Hannu Kapanen represented Finland in the Canada Cup, Olympics and World Championships as a player and won the gold medal at IIHF WJC as head coach of Team Finland in 1998. Kimmo´s uncle, Jari Kapanen played more than 350 games in the Finnish elite league winning one championship.  Kimmo’s brother, Sami Kapanen played over 900 games in the NHL, over 400 games in the Finnish elite league and represented Finland in more than 100 international games. Sami won 4 medals at IIHF World Championships and 2 Olympic medals. Additionally, Kimmo´s nephew Kasperi Kapanen was drafted 22nd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2014 and plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Kimmo´s responsibilities with Acme consist of scouting, recruiting, player development, client services and negotiating European contracts.

Kimmo’s vast knowledge of professional hockey in the capacities of player, coach and general manager allows him to better understand the needs of each client. Kimmo is fluent in Finnish, English, and Swedish. Kimmo resides in Helsinki, Finland.
