As an undrafted defenseman out of the University of Wisconsin, Brian spent his first four pro seasons playing in the Swedish Elitserien and the Finnish SM-Liiga. While overseas, he put together an impressive hockey resumé, including an SM-Liiga championship with Helsinki IFK in 1998, two Pekka Rautakallio Awards as best Liiga defenseman in 1997 and 1999, and the Golden Helmet as the top scorer in 1999.

Brian signed as a free agent with the New Jersey Devils for the 1999-00 season, where he was promptly named to the NHL All-Rookie team en route to a Stanley Cup championship. Over an 883 game NHL career with New Jersey and Detroit, Brian won three Stanley Cups (’00, ’03, ’08), was named to two NHL All-Star teams (’04, ’07), and represented the United States in the 2002, 2006, and 2010 Winter Olympics.

Brian retired from the NHL in 2011. He currently resides in Naples, Florida with his wife and three sons.
